Devil's

Toenail

The Brief -

"We need a logo for the Devil's Toenail Bike Trails and would like local young people to design it. We're looking for something simple and striking which suits the name."

- ‎Wetherby Bike Trails Competition Post

Background -

The Devil’s Toenail Junction originally formed part of a railway line in the West Yorkshire town of Wetherby. Set between two deep cliff cuts, it has retained it’s name due to the shape of the land. Nowadays the railway line has been long closed and has since been converted into a walking/cycle path for the public. The land remained abandoned and overgrown until a group of volunteers bought this area for the price of £1. With plenty of local help, the group successfully developed a range of bike trails to test peoples skills and provide fun for everyone.

Final Design -

I was struck by the sense of the strong community spirit associated with this work. The commitment of the volunteers who built the track is admirable, and it’s always good when people come together to bring something new and exciting to the heart of the town."

It's a fantastic design, really simple and striking. We think it will work really well with different colour backgrounds to mark the different trails and on the T-shirts."
