At a Glance:
Still anxious about story, bur making progress.
Feeling more organised after Problem Solving.
Reassured that techniques will work during Production.
What was I doing?
I've been continuing to focus on Problem Solving, working my way through tasks I set the week prior. I've mostly been writing up reflections on various experiments, including using the DJI Ronin for the first time, and also taking the time to consider feedback on my story.
How was I feeling?
I feel like I've made good progress in terms of Problem Solving as I've successfully covered most areas I planned to. It has definitely helped to highlight various potential issues, and while a resolution hasn't been found for some of these, it has prompted me to reconsider certain aspects of production that may make filming easier while maintaining a good production quality. The biggest issue for me, and the one which is making me the most anxious, is the availability of actors. Despite listing a new casting call, this has so far only produced one result. Story feedback is also a little worrying, as I'd like the story to be better as people have mentioned, however this means having to restructure.
What were the pros and cons?
I'm happy that I have carried out most of the practice experiments I intended to, however I get the impression that I haven't actually solved any problems. A lot of the experiments were undertaken to see if certain shot ideas work, which they do, however they don't account for any unanticipated issues like changes in outdoor lighting. The write ups do however encourage me to consider these potential issues. Undertaking the experiments has ultimately made me feel more confidant about my ability to pull these techniques off during production. Testing the gimble as also inspired me to potentially incorporate more moving shots that I otherwise wouldn't've without doing so.
What more could've I done?
I feel that it would've been beneficial to test the C100 on the gimble as I have noted down in Problem Solving. This would've given me the opportunity to test its effectiveness and iron out any potential issues before production. I feel that I could've spent more time with the gimble overall, especially trying to apply it to my specific usage cases. I also wanted to focus on developing After Effects skills for the AIs UI, however I didn't spend a lot of time on this, an afternoon maximum. This was something I was supposed to dedicate myself to as it's an important asset.
What's next?
Pre-Production is coming next, however I'll need to continue re-developing my story first. I intend to have another draft completed by Wednesday, in preparation for drawing storyboards potentially the week after. Pre-Production involves noting down the visual style I'd like to achieve, alongside technical considerations such as equipment lists, risk assessments, and shot lists.
